Tales of the catastrophe – Remembering 23rd November 1980
23rd November is the 40th anniversary of the 1980 Irpinia earthquake. In accordance with the conditions permitted by the current health emergency, we wanted to organize a moment of reflection on the most serious disaster of natural origin in the history of republican Italy, which was a turning point – from different points of view – for a large area of South Italy.
Presentations by the historian Gabriella Gribaudi and the historian of language Nicola De Blasi will initiate a discussion on the story of this traumatic event, on memories in the short and long term and on the political and socio-cultural consequences of the earthquake. The reflections will be addressed above all to high school students in the Campania region and their teachers.
The initiative is organized by the DisComPoSE research group and will take place on line.
Class teachers who intend to participate through the Zoom platform can request access credentials by sending an email to infodiscompose@unina.it by 20th November. In addition, anyone is free to attend by following the live broadcast on the research group’s Facebook page.
